Bottles and jars are not just packaging—they determine the type of label you need.
Each bottle type presents a different surface: smooth, glossy glass bottles; flexible, transparent PET bottles; and HDPE bottles with low surface energy that makes adhesive bonding difficult. Additionally, curved bottles or those with raised ridges demand highly flexible labels to prevent edge peeling after weeks on display.
Therefore, choosing bottle labels is not simply about picking an attractive design. This is an engineering challenge: the label material must be compatible with the bottle surface, the adhesive must withstand the storage environment, and the brand image must remain intact throughout the product’s entire lifecycle.
Types of Bottle Surfaces and Suitable Label Materials
For glass bottles, especially liquor, cosmetics, or perfume bottles, clear BOPP film labels or silver labels are often the top choice, delivering a luxurious no-label look with excellent moisture and scratch resistance. Permanent acrylic adhesive ensures strong adhesion on smooth surfaces.
For PET bottles and HDPE/LDPE plastic bottles, low surface energy is a major challenge. PP or BOPP film labels combined with specialized high-tack adhesives ensure the labels stay firmly attached in cold, humid conditions. Clear BOPP labels are a popular solution for beverages, micellar water, and shampoo—offering full transparency to showcase the product inside while delivering excellent water resistance.
For curved bottles or small-diameter containers like cream tubes and serum jars, thin film labels (25–30 micron) with high elasticity conform tightly to curved surfaces without edge lifting. This is a technical detail often overlooked, yet it determines the customer experience the moment they hold the product.
Storage Environment: The Determining Factor in Durability

- Does the product come into contact with oil, acid, alkali, or solvents?
- Do you need roll labels for automatic labeling machines or sheet labels for manual application?
- Have you tested the actual sample on the bottle and in a simulated environment yet?
